500cc Sidecar Report 4-5-15

The 500cc Sidecar Association ran the Anglian Spring Trophy Meeting in conjunction with the Eastern Centre Championship at Lower House Farm, High Easter on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May 2015.

The Uprights were the first adult class to the line and there was some excellent racing with Nathan Morton, Stephen Green and Steve Daw all taking three wins a-piece in the heats. In the Final Daw got the drop and steamed away, and took the win with ease. Green got second and third went to Morton. Lowestoft’s local British Champion Steve Newsham had an unlucky day and didn’t make the final having fell in his second ride.

In the 250cc Solos youngster Luke Harris in his second season of senior racing took his third win and first of the season, ahead of Lancashire based Tim Grieg and Wiltshire man Ben Ilsley. Local favourite Adam Shipp only started two heats but won both to finish just off the podium.

In the big 500cc Solos Rob Mear went through the card in style with three heat wins and the final with ease. Other heat winners on the day were Charley Powell with two, who finished third in the final, and Dave Mears who finished second in the final.

The Right-hand Sidecars Myles Simmons & Kevin Woodley took three out of three heat wins with GarethBilly Winterburn taking two. Rob Wilson & Terry Saunters took one heat win.  In the final Wilson & Saunters led from start to finish, and were followed home by Robbie Wilson & Bradley Steer. Wilson & Steer ultimately kept the Winterburns at bay who had missed the gate but couldn’t get past.

In the 500cc Sidecars the prelude to the Super Series saw some cracking racing. At the end of the heats Simon Beard & Ant Goodwin and Dan Berwick & Mark Hopkins had dropped just a couple of points and both had two heat wins. Other heat wins went to Josh Goodwin & Liam Brown, Shaun Harvey & Danny Hogg and Paul Moorcock & Gary Coleman. In the final Berwick & Hopkins got the drop and despite pressure from Beard & Goodwin took their first win. Third went to Moorcock & Coleman. The only downside to the day were the injuries to Mitch Godden and Natasha Bartlett who had a spill in practice.

In the youth racing, wins went to British Champion Max Perry in the Autos ahead of Ashton Vale and Jamie Etherington. Freddie Fox-Baron in the Cadets took first from Adrian Crisell. Harry McGurk took a clean sweep from Danny Curl and Jake Mulford in the Juniors. Adam Bales took three out of three wins in the Intermediates, George Fenner took second and third went to Milo Griggs.
